Gildas is the stage name for the singer-songwriter from Llansannan, Arwel Lloyd. He is well known as the co-writer and guitarist for the Al Lewis Band and since 2009 he's been ploughing his own furrow with a blend of folk roots and electro influences with his individual project Gildas.
Arwel moved to Cardiff in 2009 and begun his musical adventure by singing at numerous open mic. nights in the City. By the summer of 2010, his first album Nos Da was released and it received many favourable reviews by critics.
The gigging continued and he managed to reach the stages of many popular festivals such as Wakestock, Swn, Maes B and Gwyl Gardd Coll before the release of his second LP Sgwennu Stori in 2013. The album reached the top ten in the Selar Albums of the Year in 2013 and it 2014 is was short listed for the Welsh Language Album of the Year prize at the Llanelli Eisteddfod.
On his latest album, Paid â Deud, Arwel blends his guitar arrangements with the voices of Greta Isaac and Miriam Isaac to compile a collection of new verions of other people's songs.
